for quick recognition by students. Also included are one each of the computer
a and g as well as double digraphs (ch,
sh, th, wh) and

Practice Tablets
These six tablets clearly assist in demonstrating
correct letter formation on a wipe-off surface. Each of five tablets shows
a yellow highlighted "start-shape" and the corresponding letters that
can be formed. The sixth tablet is blank for s, u and z (no
"start-shape") and can also be used for practice.

One side has primary paper lines (used when making the
transition to lined paper) and the other side is unlined. There is room enough for
two or three repetitions, so the teacher can model, and the student can follow
along, or the teacher can write along with the child, verbally describing
letter strokes.

This magnetic piece attaches to the easel and displays
the tablets for easy retrieval. A second opening stores the wipe-off markers.

Table Top
Magnetic
Sentence Generator Combination
The Sentence Generator Kit has 66 pieces when finished
(assembly is required) and includes 2 tasks (1 magnetic and 1 table top). The kit is
designed to be used with the Sentence Strips.
To assemble, peel off the round pictures and attach to one
side of the foam circle. Peel off the magnet and attach to the back of the
foam. This will make your different pictures that will be used for the 2 different
tasks.
Task #1
- Display 4 or 5 pictures on a magnetic
writing board. The teacher should have a list of the child's known writing
words. The child generates a sentence using the picture in place of a word.
The child writes his/her known words while the teacher shares the pen and writes the other
words. Display our punctuation set on the board as well - then "choose" an
appropriate ending for each sentence. (This creates an opportunity to talk about
punctuation as it occurs naturally, without any "teaching".
Task #2
- Peel off 20 square pictures and attach to
one side of foam. There are no magnets because this is a table-top task. The
teacher uses the child's known writing words to create missing-word sentences.
(These may be as simple as "A ______." or "The ______." or "I go
_______." or "A _______ looks.") You can add missing word sentences
throughout roaming as you note the new words a child can write. Display some of the
20 square pictures and several of the "sentences". The child inserts a
picture and reads the "sentence" aloud. Kids love to make
"silly" sentences so using names works well in this exercise. I have
discovered that this task promotes visual focus on known words and again, there is no
teaching involved. (I can create the sentences for all of my students in about 15 minutes!)
